Buckle up, sneakerheads! This August, prepare to find yourself in the midst of a Yeezy frenzy as Foot Locker and a selection of independent boutiques roll out the red carpet for none other than Kanye West’s signature adidas Yeezy footwear.
Why is this such a big deal, you ask? Well, rewind to October 2022 when adidas cut ties with the hip-hop mogul following controversial statements. The brand made it very clear: they wouldn’t stand for hate speech, be it antisemitism or any other form. The sneaker world was left wondering what would happen next after this sudden turn of events.
Fast forward to May 2023 when adidas and Kanye decided to strike a deal to sell off the existing Yeezy stockpile. Interestingly, this isn’t just a matter of business and cutting losses. Proceeds from these sales are pledged towards the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Philonise & Keeta Floyd Institute for Social Change, among other organizations. Talk about spinning a challenging situation into a win!
Previously, Foot Locker had led the retailer resistance against future Yeezy product drops and called for existing products to be taken off their shelves. But guess what? On July 17th, word came that Foot Locker had agreed to house adidas Yeezy footwear throughout August. This move was in accordance with pre-existing distribution agreements with the Yeezy brand, long before the decision to sever ties with Kanye.
Now, let's get to the juicy part! As per the grapevine, as many as eighteen different Yeezy footwear releases, including much-anticipated Yeezy Slides and Yeezy Foam Runners, are set to hit the market in a staggered sequence this August. Some of these are completely new, bound to incite a frenzy among fans and collectors alike.
