Renowned sneaker retailer James Whitner, the owner of popular shops like A Ma Maniére and Social Status, finds himself at the center of a civil forfeiture complaint alleging involvement in an international money laundering scheme. While Whitner has not faced criminal charges, the complaint filed in a North Carolina district court unveils a complex web of financial activities, claiming that he played a key role in a "trade-based money laundering network."

The complaint asserts that between November 2017 and April 2022, Whitner orchestrated the sale of millions of dollars worth of sneakers to a Chinese national. The products were then resold in China and other locations. Subsequently, a broker in China allegedly directed money couriers to collect substantial sums of cash, generated from activities like prostitution, which were then funneled back to Whitner.

Totaling over $32 million, these illicit transactions prompted a civil forfeiture action, resulting in the seizure of approximately $1,199,530 in August 2021 from the residence of Antwain Freeman, a close friend of Whitner, located in North Bergen, New Jersey.


The complaint, signed by an IRS criminal investigator, contends that despite appearing as a legitimate trade in apparel, the business conducted by Whitner's Money Transmitting Business was, in reality, moving cash derived from illegal activities into the banking system.

## Whitner's Response

In response to the allegations, the Whitaker Group, Whitner's organization, took to social media to issue a statement vehemently denying any wrongdoing. The statement emphasized that the accusations are "unfounded, unrelated to our business or this community, and unjustified." The group further asserted its cooperation with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina (USAO) and emphasized compliance with all tax obligations annually.

But win #2, was something that Drake didn't warn anyone about. After the concert was over there was a flashing QR code on the side of the stadium. Drake went full Batman for this LA-concert exclusive surprise.

## Who Cares About A QR Code?

It turns out the QR code took you to a page where you had to input your shoe size, and you got...drumroll please...shoes. But at what price? None, actually. Anyone who was able to scan this got sent to a checkout page with $180 shoes and $1 shipping, which was then subtracted entirely from the final price. This brought the NOCTAs down to a whopping $0. There were a few different colorways, including the Hot Step Light Pumice, Slime Green, and Pink Quartz.

The powerhouse collaboration between KITH, ASICS and Marvel is stepping it up a notch for the 60th anniversary of X-Men. Following their successful celebration of Spider-Man's six-decade milestone, the power trio is returning to the scene to honor another beloved superhero squad.

This exciting collaboration features seven stunning versions of the ASICS GEL-LYTE III. The designs are inspired by six X-Men stalwarts: Beast, Cyclops, Gambit, Rogue, Storm, and the indomitable Wolverine. Notably, the much-adored Wolverine is honored with two distinct colorways, paying homage to his iconic suits from 1975 and 1980.

Though not officially linked to the Barbie franchise, the timing of the sneaker release is nothing short of serendipitous. Coming hot on the heels of the Nike Air Max Scorpion "Barbie" reveal, the Dunk Low LX sports an irresistibly Barbie-inspired look, perfectly aligned with the excitement surrounding the movie premiere.

## Release Details

Here is a first look via @masterchefian (IG) at another Yeezy Slide colorway that is expected to release later this year for  a retail price of $70. This colorway is being referred to as "Mx Moon" and a handful of other pairs will be releasing in the coming months as well. Pairs will be available on the Adidas Confirmed app and at select Yeezy brand retailers.
